Today on 26th August 2026, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Thomas Cheruiyot, today addressed the University of Eldoret’s Class of 2026/2027 during the ongoing First-Year Orientation Programme.
In a historic year that has seen the University admit 8,217 first-year students, Prof. Cheruiyot welcomed the new cohort and challenged them to embrace the opportunities ahead with purpose, discipline and responsibility.
“You belong here. You did not arrive here by accident. You earned your place here,” he told the students.
The Vice-Chancellor encouraged them to take their studies seriously, discover and develop their individual strengths, and make meaningful contributions to the University community.
“Everybody has a light. Your responsibility is to discover yours. Find your strength, develop it, sharpen it and let it shine.”
Drawing from the University's motto, Flame of Knowledge and Innovation, he further reminded the students of the importance of sharing knowledge and uplifting others.
“When one flame lights another, the first flame does not become smaller. It becomes part of something bigger.”
The address set an inspiring tone as the Class of 2026/2027 begins its academic journey at the University of Eldoret.
