The Office of the Registrar Academics continues to play a central role in academic matters at the University in line with its mandate. This is a critical contribution in facilitating the attainment of the mission as a premier University in research and innovation. In the past year, the office has realised greater strides which are geared towards efficient delivery of service to students.
The Admissions Office has put in place structures to improve service delivery. The section re-engineered the admission process to reduce time taken to process admission. We are proud to report that it now takes 3 days to receive and process admission letters. In addition, there is an effective communication mechanism in place to notify students on admission matters. In the 2023/2024 Academic Year, the section admitted over 3300 first-year students. Furthermore, most of our services such as reporting for academic sessions, registration of course units and access to student information are automated. We continue facilitating international students in acquiring the necessary documents such as visas and study permits as required by the Laws of Kenya as set out in the Kenyan Immigration Act. The Students’ Registry is also maintained by the Admissions Office for proper management of students’ records and databases.
The University Examinations Section has continued to streamline examination processes including efficient delivery mechanisms, processing, storage and administration of University Examinations. The section has organised and continues to sensitize both students and staff on examination processes as guided by the ISO Quality Manual and the revised Common Rules and Regulations for University Examinations (2023). As a result of the revised rules, more students were allowed to clear their academic records resulting in over 1000 backlog students graduating.
Curricula development is a core function of this section. The curriculum development policy has been revised as a step towards streamlining our processes. The section has facilitated the review of postgraduate programmes to align them to the demands of our stakeholders and the realities of the current world. At the moment, several undergraduate curricula have been submitted to the Commission for University Education for accreditation. One notable curriculum is the Bachelor of Science in Nursing. It is hoped that with the accreditation of this programme the University will have achieved an important step in responding to the call of our stakeholders. In addition, this programme will be important as a contribution towards the government’s goal of provision of universal healthcare for citizens. In this academic year, the section is facilitating the revision of our undergraduate programmes to align them to the CBC realities.
