A delegation from Lund University, Sweden; Sokoine University of Agriculture, Tanzania and Chinese Academy of Sciences, China paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Thomas Cheruiyot.
The discussions centred around the upcoming collaboration and partnership between the four (4) Universities and Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) on SWAT - Safeguard Water Security towards Sustainable Development Goals in Aquatic Ecosystems. The projects' objectives will revolve around sustainable water resource management, land use change, pollution and use of low-cost items for innovation. The activities will include GIA and satellite mapping.
In his remarks, Prof. Thomas Cheruiyot appreciated the multi-disciplinary engagement and expressed the University's readiness to support the team to be able to engage effectively and create an impact in the community and by extension, the world by spreading technology through education and capacity building. He emphasized that there should be conversion of research from the findings to innovations and practical solutions and eventually commercialization.
The delegation lead, Prof. Linus Zhang was confident that the collaboration would experience positive growth in future considering the various new and innovative ideas that will be realized following the project's deliverables and outcomes.
