The National Cohesion and National Values committee is tasked with enhancing the capacity of University of Eldoret and the public to adhere to the provisions of Article 10 of the 2010 Constitution of Kenya. This they can achieve through civic education, training and sensitization on national values and principles of governance. The committee carried out sensitization of students and staff on principles of governance and national as part of its activities. Students were sensitized on 2nd November 2022, while staff were sensitized on 3rd November 2022. The participants were taken through the seventeen national values from Article 10 (2) of the constitution and how they can be applied.
The meeting was opened by the DVC (AF) Prof. Ng’etich on behalf of the Vice Chancellor. Members of the committee were the facilitators. The committee members are Dr. Jirm Elle, Mr. Isaac Ekise, Mr. Paul Mwaniki, Mr. Martin Oyugi, Eng. John Taragon, Fr. Martin Tanui, Dr. Katana Sirya and Dr. Judith Khazenzi who is the current chairperson. The sensitization is expected to help in guiding the actions and behaviour of the University of Eldoret community. This will help to promote national values and the principles of good governance within our institution. It will also promote peaceful coexistence within our institution as well as with our neighbouring community. This will contribute to achieving the objective of the state to have a peaceful nation to which every citizen feels a sense of belonging.
