University’s Sensitization Forum for Youth, Women and Persons Living with Disabilities on Government Procurement Opportunities

The University through the Procurement and Supplies Department was privileged to host a sensitization forum for youth, women and persons living with disabilities on Government Procurement Opportunities on Friday, 20th May, 2022 at University of Eldoret, Main Campus with support from University Management.

The forum which was opened by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (AF) Prof Wilson Ng’etich who represented the Vice-Chancellor was in line with the Government of Kenya Policy and Presidential directive on empowering, youth, women and persons living with disabilities. The Forum aimed at accessing government procurement opportunities program to these group of persons with the sole purpose of facilitating their entrepreneurial empowerment and enable them to be able to participate in Government opportunities.

In his remarks, Prof. Ng’etich identified that the University of Eldoret has always budgeted, planned and allocated 30% of its resources to youth, women and persons living with disabilities in its annual budget and procurement plan for each financial year. He identified that the program has empowered the youth, women and persons living with disabilities by giving them more opportunities in doing business with the University. He appreciated the PPRA officer Mr. Tom Odhiambo for answering to the University call and availing himself to enlighten the participants during this sensitization forum.

The participants during the forum were taken through the Legal Provisions governing procurement procedures, Eligibility Criteria for them to be considered, Requirements for Registration and the documentations required and lastly how to register their entities at the National Treasury by the PPRA Officer.

Further, the PPRA officer guided them on how to respond to tenders whenever they are invited. He identified that they need to examine the tender advertised by going through the specifications, TORS, BOQs/Scope of Works and by confirming the business capability of the job among other guiding principles.

The sensitization forum saw a total of seventy seven (77) Suppliers both who were pre-qualified and those who intent to be prequalified by the University.
