The Government through the Ministry of Environment and Forestry in partnership with other key stakeholders has continued to undertake annual forest conservation activities to enhance, sustainable development and environmental conservation through the Kaptagat Integrated Conservation Programme. The programme is geared towards forest and environmental conservation of Kaptagat Forest block and its environs.
The 6th Edition of Kaptagat Annual Tree Planting #GreeningKaptagat aims at rehabilitation of Kaptagat Forest Ecosystem. Through the invitation of the Principal Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Forestry, University of Eldoret participated in event that took place at the Dr. Eliud Kipchoge Adopted Forest Site on 15th July, 2022. The target of the 6th Edition was to plant over 250,000 seedlings as continuation of rehabilitation of the forest. Besides representation during the event, UoE donated through NETFUND a sum of One Hundred Thousand shillings (Ksh. 100,000.00) towards facilitation of the activity. This is in line with UoE commitment towards environment sustainability at both local and National levels through participation in tree planting among other approaches.
The event was officially opened by the Principal Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Forestry Hon. Dr. Chris Kiptoo on behalf of the Cabinet Secretary Hon. Keriako Tobiko. Other participants included the Principal Secretary State Department for Regional Development Dr. Belio Kipsang, Dr. Eluid Kipchoge, representatives of Uasin Gishu and Elgeyo county governments among others.
The University of Eldoret was represented by the HOD, Applied Environmental Social Sciences, Dr. Christopher Saina on behalf of the University. The Ministry of Environment and Forestry presented to the University a Certificate of Recognition and Appreciation for the support and participation during the event.
