The University Played Hosts to The KLISC Third Annual International Conference

The Kenya Libraries and Information Services Consortium (KLISC), 3rd Annual International Conference was hosted by University of Eldoret on 25th-26th May, 2022 at EKA Hotel, Eldoret. KLISC is an organization of member libraries in Kenya. It is a consortium of academic and research institution whose clarion call is “knowledge is information”.

The conference whose theme was “Re-imagining Library Services amidst the COVID-19 Pandemic and Beyond: Challenges and Opportunities” was officially opened by the Chair of the Executive Committee Kenya Libraries Information Services Consortium and also University Librarian, Chuka University Prof. Joseph Kavulya who officially welcomed the conference attendees.

Prof. Kavulya thanked the University of Eldoret for hosting the conference by partnering with KLISC in offering logistical support. He appreciated all the conference presenters and those attending (physically and virtually) and alluded that the conference offers fresh insights to inspire and scale to greater heights in service provision in the post COVID-19 era and in contributions towards transforming various communities into successful participants of the global knowledge society. He reported that the papers presented at the conference will be published in conference proceedings and the exemplarily papers will be published in KLISC Journal launched during the AGM.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (AF) Prof. Wilson Ng’etich who was also in attendance representing the University Vice-Chancellor officially thanked the Consortium for choosing University of Eldoret to host the conference. He mentioned that KLISC has member libraries throughout the country and aims to provide access to a wide range of scholarly e-resources. He noted that the consortium has 132 members which includes public and private university libraries, collage and polytechnic, public libraries, national libraries and special libraries.

University of Eldoret Library as a member of the consortium was well represented by the Ag. Librarian Ms. Lydia Lelon who was the coordinator of the event together with her team comprising of Eunice Ruto, Petronilla Omete, Consolata Kandie and Titus Too. The conference was sponsored by MyLOFT, emeraldinsight, Gothe Institute, EBSCO, ODILO, Elsevier, Wolters Kluwer among other institutions.

The three-day event culminated with the Annual General Meeting (AGM) that was held on 27 May, 2022 at University of Eldoret, Main Campus to discuss issues to propel KLISC forward.

The next (4th) KLISC Annual International Conference will be held at KASNEB – Nairobi in 2024.
