University Signs MOU with VIVES University-Belgium


In order to meet our vision, mission and Mandate, Universities are called upon to advance cooperation and partnership with various institutions in areas of mutual interests. In line with the need of the University to internationalize its operations and meet its objectives within our respective areas of expertise, the University entered into a collaborative agreement with VIVES University of Belgium.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by the Vice-Chancellor University of Eldoret Prof. Teresa Akenga and the President VIVES University Mr. Joris Hindryckx in a small event that was held at the University’s Forestry Building Conference Room 1 on 15th of July, 2022.

Mr. Hindryckx appreciated the efforts taken by University of Eldoret in ensuring that this collaboration becomes a success and sustainable. He noted that VIVES University is a home of Applied Sciences and this goes in sync with what University of Eldoret offers. He identified that Africa is considered a continent of the future and is impressed by its first growth particularly here in Kenya and thanked the Ministry of Education for setting the stage for the collaboration. He further noted that the agreement will go a long way in enhancing capacity building, mentorship and mutual benefits for both institutions.

Prof. Akenga on the other hand acknowledge the guests from VIVES University for actualizing this collaboration, and identified that this partnership is a step towards future engagement between these two governments. She pointed out that this agreement will open avenues for students and staff exchange, academic mobility programs, collaborative research, capacity building and mentorship which will go a long way in elevating the levels of our researchers for the better. Further, she highlighted that University of Eldoret as home of Applied Sciences offers ample opportunities and areas of mutual cooperation which will be beneficial for VIVES University.

Also present during the MoU signing were a delegation from VIVES University comprising of the Head of International Office Ms. Tine Ternest and International Relations Officer Ms. Lies Verstraete, the Education Attachee at Belgium Embassy Mrs. Peris Litunya, representatives from Department of University Education and Research, representative from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, Members of University Management, and representative of University of Eldoret from various Directorates, and Schools.
