Board of Postgraduate Studies

The Board of Postgraduate Studies is responsible for the coordination of delivery of the postgraduate syllabi and their regulation, admission of postgraduate students, administration of postgraduate scholarships and research grants, administration and processing of postgraduate theses, projects or research papers, proper conduct and supervision of postgraduate study programmes, verification of final list of postgraduate degree awards and the general welfare and discipline of postgraduate students.

Postgraduate programmes at the University of Eldoret have continued to grow with time, and now cover most demand-driven courses in this country. Presently the University has six schools with formidable postgraduate research teams in several disciplines such as Pure and Applied Sciences, Engineering, Business, Humanities, Aquatic Science, Wildlife Management, Forestry, Agriculture, Biotechnology, Environmental Studies, Economics, Hospitality and Tourism Management and Human resource development.

The programmes have attracted both local and international students sponsored through RUFORUM and fundable proposals developed by the staff in various schools.

The Directorate of the Board of Postgraduate Studies is committed to ensuring that the programmes offered are of high quality and that the processes involved conform to standards and guidelines set by the commission of University Education. The board also supports students to complete their studies on time by continuously monitoring their progress and organizing workshops to train the students on enhancing skills in various stages of developing the thesis starting from proposal writing.

Since its inception in 2010, the board has had 4 directors namely Prof. Augustino Onkware (2010 to 2014), Prof. Elizabeth Njenga (2014 to 2018), Prof. Beatrice Were (2018 to 2022) and Prof. Samuel Lutta (2022 to Present).

As a new director of the board of postgraduate studies, my major goal is to show leadership and to ensure improved quality teaching research and time-bound deliverables in the directorate.

Prof. Samuel Lutta
