University of Eldoret conducted a training on Program Self-Assessment of some academic programmes offered in our university from 9th to 12th July, 2025. This is a requirement by the Commission for University Education.
This training was officially opened by Prof. David Some on behalf of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic and Students’ Affairs. In his opening remarks, Prof. Some noted that the training was an important activity carried out every five years, and that it brings out the gaps identified by stakeholders that need to be filled in order to make the programmes relevant. Lastly, he appreciated the organizers of the training and the participants for ensuring that the training was conducted as scheduled.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic and Students’ Affairs attended the training on the second day. He reminded the participants that the exercise was a requirement by the Commission for University Education and encouraged the participants to be committed and actively participate in the training to gain more knowledge on how to undertake the program self-assessment. He underscored the commitment of the university management in ensuring that the academic programs being offered meet the required standards.
During the 3-day training, the facilitators took the participants through the following key processes in Program Self-Assessment:
- An overview of Quality Program Self-Assessment
- Quality Assurance & the Legal Framework
- Self-Assessment Models
- Personal Action Plans
- Data Collection and Analysis
- Report writing
At the end of the training, the participants were tasked with carrying out a comprehensive self-assessment of the selected academic programmes and prepare reports for discussion at various levels and presentation to the Commission for University Education.
Overall, the training provided valuable knowledge and practical strategies on how to undertake quality self-assessment of the academic programmes offered by the University.
