University of Eldoret Triumphs at the 2025 Eldoret Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) Show

The University staff and students participated in the 2025 Eldoret Agricultural Society of Kenya Show that took place from 5th to 8th March 2025 to share experiences, research findings and innovations with other stakeholders. The 2025 Show theme was;

“Promoting Climate Smart Agriculture and Trade Initiatives for Economic Growth.”

The ASK show which attracted several other exhibitors and stakeholders, saw University of Eldoret exhibiting several innovations on climate-smart agriculture and trade initiatives for economic growth.  The university exhibits that were showcased at the agricultural show were aligned to the theme and included the following among others;

  • Climate-smart indigenous vegetable solar drier.
  • Climate-smart sustainable farming practices that enhance soil health, biodiversity, and water conservation.
  • Climate-smart container gardening to maximize food production in limited urban spaces, promoting food security.
  • Upgraded indigenous goat and sheep breeds which are resistant to drought and diseases.
  • Climate-smart poultry feed utilizing locally available materials.
  • Climate-smart crop varieties - Eldo Amani and Eldo Fanaka Irish potato varieties and climate-smart sorghum varieties that are resistant to striga.
  • Climate-smart rapid multiplication of pyrethrum seedlings.
  • Development of food products and nutritious snacks from available climate-smart crops with high fibre and nutrition (Soya, sorghum, Cassava).
  • Apparel fashion & Design – making table mats, wall hangings etc from recycled material.
  • Macadamia nut cracker and groundnut plucker to streamline harvesting and reduce labor costs.
  • Solar mushroom drier and metal silo to minimize post-harvest losses.
  • Production of value added products and trade initiatives from jackfruit which is a climate-smart and resilient tree.
  • Preservation techniques for tomatoes and other perishable products.
  • Climate-smart organic fertilizer (pelleted and fortified agroforestry-based organic fertilizer.
  • Tiles from waste materials, waste biomass stoves, and manual milking machine.
  • Process and evidence-based soil testing services for climate-smart nutrient management via enhancing nutrient use efficiency for viable economic returns and environmental conservation.
  • Apparel fashion & Design – making table mats, wall hangings etc from recycled material.
  • Climate-smart oasis vegetable gardening.
  • Assorted products from recycled timber waste.
  • Climate-smart aquaculture system.
  • The animal parade with 4 lactating cows, 2 heifers and 1 young heifers.

During the show, we were honored to have hosted Hon. Jonathan Bii, Governor of the County Government of Uasin Gishu. The university also showcased the several research activities and research grants by staff and patented innovations. The innovations and research findings led the University to scoop the below awards during the show. The awards were received by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Thomas Cheruiyot.
