Visit by the ABSA Bank (K) PLC

A delegation from ABSA Bank (K) PLC led by the Managing Principal Corporate & Investment Banking, Mr. James Agin, paid a courtesy call to the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Thomas Cheruiyot, to discuss and explore areas of collaboration and partnership with University.

The ABSA delegation included Mr. Peter Mutua (Customer Network Director), Mr. Julius Songok (Rift Regional Manager), Ms. Florence Gregory (Branch Manager, RUPA Mall) and Gloria Kimetto (SME Relationship Manager).

ABSA Bank (K) PLC has had a long standing relationship with the University through past and ongoing collaborations in financial management. With this background, the team sought new avenues to enhance the continuing relationship between the 2 institutions. The courtesy call discussion centered on;

  1. Exploring further adaptation of technology use in the university's operations,
  2. Continuation of provision of scholarships to needy students within the university,
  3. Capacity building of staff and students in financial literacy and management skills which would be done either on-site or virtually,
  4. Support the University’s tree planting drive in line with the government's national target of 15 billion trees by 2032.

During the tree planting ceremony, the ABSA & UoE teams planted various indigenous trees signifying the start of the ABSA Tree Corner. With the support of the Environmental Sustainability Committee, the ABSA team would grow and ensure that they thrive.

DVC Academic & Students’ Affairs) Prof. Wilson Ng’etich (DVC Administration & Finance), Dr. Benjamin Mwasi (Registrar - Planning), Dr. Francis Ikapel (Ag. Registrar-Administration), CPA Barnabas Agar (Ag. Finance Officer), Dr. Thomas Munyao (Chair, Environmental Sustainability Committee), Dr. Kenneth Odhiambo (Sch. Of Natural Resources & Environmental Studies) Ms. Cynthia Chebii (Corporate Affairs and Marketing) and Ms. Jane Kiragu (Forestry Department).
