Hotel and Hospitality Department Stakeholders’ Workshop

Aligned with the University’s mission “to provide quality education, training, research and entrepreneurship in Science, Agriculture, Engineering, Technology and the Arts to meet the needs and aspirations of a dynamic society”, the Department of Hotel and Hospitality Management hosted a Stakeholders Workshop to review their Bachelors’ and Masters’ programs while introducing the Hospitality Management Doctorate program. This workshop was spearheaded by Dr. Julie Makomere, the Head of Department, and Dr. Carolyne Ayuma, the Dean of the School of Business, Economics and Management Sciences.

Hon. Eng. Martha Cheruto, the C.E.C. Trade, Industrialization, Tourism, Cooperatives and Enterprise Development from the County Government of Uasin Gishu commended the department’s initiative, emphasizing the County Government’s commitment to elevating the Tourism circuit as a primary key income generating sector. She shared her thoughts on enriching the programs based on the wealth of experience she has accumulated during her tenure within the county's department, which served as a cornerstone for the ongoing discussions.

Prof. Anne Kisilu and Prof. Jacqueline Korir,  who serve as the Dean, School of Education and Dean, School of Tourism, Hospitality and Events Management respectively, at Moi University, shared valuable insights on the approaches to the curriculum development. Mr. Kennedy Were, the General Manager of Eka Eldoret Hotel, and Ms. Evelyn Sossy an alumna of the department working with Mombasa Serena Hotel,  elaborated on the practical knowledge and firsthand experience that could be integrated into the curriculum to align with the contemporary trends in the hospitality industry.

Michael Kangogo, Mr. Kennedy Chelimo, Ms. Stella Ayunga, Ms. Purity Maganji, Ms. Cynthia Chebii and Ms. Caroline Kabiru.
