It is with deep sorrow and acceptance of God’s will that we announce the passing on of Prof. Phillip Tito Okoth Raburu of the University of Eldoret on Monday, 28th September 2026, at Eldoret Hospital after a short illness.

Prof. Raburu was a distinguished scholar, researcher, academic leader, mentor and administrator. At the time of his death, he was the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Planning, Research and Extension, University of Eldoret. He previously served in various academic and administrative capacities, including as Head of Department. He made significant contributions to research and scholarship in aquatic resources, fisheries, environmental management and community development.
He was the beloved husband of Dr. Elizabeth Awuor Raburu of the University of Eldoret and devoted father of Jessica, Eugene, Steve and JoyFaith. He was father-in-law of Quinter and Bethuel, and loving grandfather of Theillah, Yadah, Eliana, Azriel and Alice.
He was the son of the late Wellington Raburu Sagwe and the late Joyce Raburu of Mgingo Village, Kadibo Sub-County, Kisumu County, and son-in-law of the late Hosea and the late Ann Oluoch Obare of Barding Village, South East Alego, Siaya County.
Prof. Raburu will be remembered for his dedication to scholarship, research, mentorship, leadership and service to the University and society. He leaves behind a loving family, relatives, colleagues and friends who will greatly miss him.
FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS
The family is meeting daily at their Kimumu home in Eldoret and rural home in Koyuga Village, Rabuor, Kisumu County.
A candle lighting ceremony is scheduled for 7th October 2026 at the University of Eldoret, School of Business Complex at 2:00 p.m.
The cortege will leave the Eldoret Hospital Mortuary on Friday, 9th October 2026, at 7:00 a.m., followed by a Requiem Service at ACK St. Matthew’s Cathedral, Eldoret, and thereafter proceed to ACK St. Paul’s Mgingo, Kisumu County.
The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, 10th October 2026, at 8:00 a.m. at Mgingo Primary School, followed by burial at his home in Koyuga Village, Rabuor, Kisumu County.
The University Council, Management, Senate, Staff, Students and entire University of Eldoret community convey their heartfelt condolences to Dr. Elizabeth Awuor Raburu, the children, grandchildren and the entire Raburu family.
May his soul rest in eternal peace.
