The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Thomas Cheruiyot welcomed the new cohort of first-year students to the University of Eldoret, ushering them into the beginning of their University academic journey. The advise from the Vice-Chancellor and members of the University Management Board provided invaluable insights and guidance to the incoming students.
Prof. Cheruiyot, as he talked with the new students, emphasized the institution's commitment to fostering both intellectual and personal growth. He highlighted the university's renowned faculty, state-of-the-art facilities, and diverse academic programs. "You have made an excellent choice in selecting the University of Eldoret for your higher education," Prof. Cheruiyot stated. "We are dedicated to providing you with the resources and support necessary to excel in your studies and achieve your academic goals."
The Vice Chancellor encouraged the students to embrace the opportunities offered by the university, engage in research, participate in discussions and develop a strong reading habits. "Reading is the cornerstone of academic success," he emphasized. "The more you read, the more you learn, and the better equipped you will be to contribute meaningfully to society."
Prof. Cheruiyot also emphasized the importance of social growth and encouraged the students to engage with their peers, participate in extracurricular activities and immerse themselves in the university's diverse culture. "The friendships and networks you build here will enrich your life and provide invaluable support throughout your life’s journey," he said.
Prof. Beatrice Were, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Academic and Students' Affairs, provided the students with essential information about the university's structure, academic programs and student support services. She emphasized the importance of adhering to the university's rules and regulations, attending classes regularly, and maintaining academic integrity.
Prof. Philip Raburu, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Planning, Research & Extension, welcomed and congratulated the first-year students, describing them as the "crème-de-la-crème" of society. He urged them to prioritize their studies and take advantage of the various opportunities offered by the university, including extra-curricular activities and innovation initiatives.
Prof. Wilson Ng’etich, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Administration & Finance urged the first years to focus and concentrate on their studies, avoid distractions. He mentioned that the entire faculty team is willing to walk the journey with the students and they need not shy away from asking questions, urged them to continue being curious and creative.
The orientation ceremony concluded with an interactive session between the Vice-Chancellor, the Management team, and the students.
