The University of Eldoret wishes to reassure all students that their safety, dignity, and well-being remain a top priority of the institution.
In a memo issued today by the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and Students' Affairs), Ref: UoE/DVASA/ASA/002, the University acknowledged that students may hold different political views and affiliations. However, such views should never become a source of division, intimidation, discrimination, hostility, or conflict within our institution.
Our Shared Responsibility: Five Key Calls to Action
As a learning community built on diversity and mutual respect, the University calls upon all students to uphold the following principles:
- Respect One Another – Regardless of political affiliation, background, beliefs, or opinions.
- Promote Cohesion and Integration – Within classes, departments, residences, student associations, and all other spaces of interaction.
- Engage in Constructive Dialogue – Especially when discussing divergent matters.
- Refrain from Discrimination or Victimization – Of fellow students on the basis of their views.
- Report Any Incidents – That may threaten the safety or well-being of students through the appropriate institutional channels.
A Message from the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (ASA)
The University reminds all students that we are a learning environment where diversity of views should be handled with maturity, tolerance, and respect. Students are encouraged to concentrate on their academic and personal development while contributing positively to a peaceful and inclusive institutional community.
"The University of Eldoret remains committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and conducive environment for learning and will continue to work with students and staff to promote cohesion, integration, and peaceful coexistence," said Prof. Godfrey Netondo.
