Lawrence Mwangi Kairegi, from the School of Engineering, is the 2024 University of Eldoret Valedictorian.
Lawrence joined University of Eldoret in 2019 to pursue a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical and Production Engineering. Lawrence graduated as the best Valedictorian, having attained a first-class honor's of 80.2%, the highest recorded ever since the University’s inception.
In his speech, he talked candidly about his experiences, the lows and the highs, his journey through the 5 years. He said, “while trials at times felt overwhelming, they helped us grow stronger with every step. Alongside lectures and textbooks, we learned valuable life lessons from each other and from the challenges we encountered.”
He recognized the members of the School of Engineering faculty and his friends who walked with him during his academic journey and appreciated their unwavering support.
As he ended his speech he said, “Let us carry forward the lessons of resilience and adaptability that the University has taught us. May we step into the world with confidence, prepared to make a difference and give back to our communities.”
The National Bank for the third year running donated personalized trophies and gift vouchers for the best students, both male and female.
Prof. Nicholas Makau (Ag. Vice-Chancellor) presented Lawrence his trophy and gift voucher. Mr. David Mutai, the NBK Eldoret Branch Manager was on hand to witness the ceremony. In attendance was Prof. Godfrey Netondo (Deputy Vice-Chancellor, ASA), Dr. Lelei Kibioy (Dean of Students) and Ms. Cynthia Chebii (Asst. Registrar - Corporate Affairs and Marketing).
